PEP RALLY TODAY - PALADIN FOOTBALL TONIGHT

ALL SCHOOL TAILGATE
Tonight, Friday, August 30, 6:00-7:00 pm, Practice Field adjacent to the Athletic House. Join our Fellowship family as we kickoff the 2013 Paladin football season. Grades K-8 will tailgate by grade. Grades 9-12 will tailgate as a whole. Kona Ice will be back! Don't miss the food, fun and fellowship!

PTF SPIRIT ITEMS

Monday, September 2 is the Labor Day holiday. No school. Enjoy your three day weekend!




FELLOWSHIP DADS
Every Wednesday beginning September 4, 6:00 -7:30 am, HS Room 103. What is Biblical Manhood? Join the group of FCS dads as we bring Men's Fraternity to Fellowship. Robert Lewis, author of "Raising a Modern Day Knight", offers a weekly curriculum for us to use as we join together as Christian men, hold each other accountable, and strengthen our faith to be better men, husbands, and fathers.  This is the "men's group" you've been looking for. Learn more and sign up at FCS Men's Fraternity blog.

FRIDAYS AT PALADIN CENTER
Beginning September 6, there will be NO 3:45 pm Crossfit class on Fridays. Also the afternoon Paladin Center shuttle will no longer run on Fridays beginning September 6 as well.

SMOOTHIES
Tuesdays and Thursdays for the first three weeks in September seniors will be selling Smoothie King smoothies. Look for senior students in the lower parking lot at the elementary school and in the concession area in the middle/high school. The cost of a smoothie is $3.00.  Flavors are strawberry banana, strawberry kiwi, and strawberry lemonade. Thanks for supporting our seniors as they raise money for their senior trip!

INDIVIDUAL AND CLASS PHOTOS
MS and HS student and class pictures will be Thursday, September 26; 
ES student and class pictures will be Friday, September 27.

FALL PHOTO-FUN-RAISER
Friday-Sunday, September 27-29, Family photo sessions are available for all FCS families. The upper school PTF Board along with our new school photographer, Scholastic Image Solutions, is teaming up to provide this photo opportunity. The sitting fee of $20 will go entirely to help fund our fabulous PTF while you receive a photo session with a professional photographer and a FREE 8" x 10" family portrait! Sign up tonight, Friday, August 30th for appointments at the PTF Tailgate Tent. Appointments begin Friday, September 27 at 4:00 pm at FCS. Prints will be available to view online October 25; ordering deadline is October 31. Please join us for some photo fun in support of the MS/HS PTF. Questions? FELLOWSHIP FUND RECAP
Thanks to all our wonderful FCS families and friends, we set another record level of participation in last year's annual fund drive. We raised nearly $500,000 and received 100% participation from faculty/staff and 87% participation from our parents! Watch this video to see how your donations were put to good use and stay tuned for information about this year's Fellowship fund and how you can participate.

Little Paladins, Big Pride


THANKS A WHOLE BUNCH!
The teachers and staff were blessed by a wonderful, scrumptious lunch on Friday, August 23 provided by the PTF. Thanks so much, PTF, for loving us and keeping our tummies happy. You are tremendous!

G.I. R.L.S.
Thursdays, 2:50-4:45 pm. Registration fee is $75, the registration form is available on the Forms page of the FCS website. The completed form may be turned into the elementary office. A desire or like of running is not required! G.I.R.L.S. is a running program for girls 3rd - 5th grade. This is not just about running, but is to teach our daughters they are each unique and special in the way God made them. Through a Biblical based curriculum, girls will learn how to respect themselves as well as others and at the same time become fitness conscious. This 10-week program ends with all girls and coaches running a local 5K together and completing a service project. Questions? Contact Tina Hermann, 770-633-4343

ELEMENTARY PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
Tuesday, September 3, 6:30 pm. Parent's don't miss this evening to meet your child's teachers, see the classroom, ask questions, and get a feel for the year ahead. Parents only, please. Childcare is not provided. Rotations will be as follows:
6:30-7:00 pm 1st Rotation
7:05-7:30 pm 2nd Rotation
7:40-8:10 pm 3rd Rotation
As needed: 8:15-8:45 4th Rotation

LUNCH VISITATION
To help our students develop a routine, please wait until September 23 to join your child for lunch at school.

MUSIC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
Melanie Baxley, our music teacher, would love some assistance from our FCS community to make this the best year ever for our ES music program. If you have a love for music and theater, a heart to serve, or both, she needs your help! There are various areas in which to assist: Band Helpers, Parent Director, Costume Helpers, Acting Coaches, Props Helpers, and Stage set up and tear down. Also, if you play a brass, woodwind, or percussion instrument and would like to help run sectionals before and after school, there is a place for you! MS FALL RETREAT
Food concerns may be addressed with the camp through the online forms or by contacting Zach at zach@camphighland.comApproved chaperones must register online also. We do not have any more room for additional parent chaperones.
8th grade students leave Wednesday, September 4 at 8:00 am. They will make a stop along the way and must bring money for lunch.
6th and 7th grade students leave Thursday, September 5 at 8:00 am and go directly to camp where lunch will be provided.
All students will return to school for carpool on Friday, September 6.

MS PARENT COFFEES
We are looking forward to seeing our parents at these events. Come meet other grade level parents, ask questions and sign up to volunteer. Please note a change in the location.

JEKYLL TRIP PARENT MEETING
Monday, September 9, 6:30-8:30 pm, Lecture Hall Room 109. This is a required meeting for at least one parent of our 7th grade students. Critical information and mandatory paperwork for this trip will be covered and handed out. Please mark your calendar and make plans to attend.

HS students and parents must enter through the main entrance. MS and HS students may enter through the HS entrance together.


AFTER SCHOOL STUDY HALL
Monday-Friday, 3:15-5:15 pm, students grades 6-12, HS Media Center. This will be a teacher-supervised study hall; all students not picked up in carpool MUST go to this study hall rather than remain on campus unsupervised. This is also available for our student-athletes who have late practices. Students should report to the Media Center right after carpool (if no students arrive by 4:00 pm, it will be closed.) Parents will be emailed that their child is in the study hall. When parents arrive to pick up their child, they should call the Media Center at 770-641-6832 to have their child sent to the front office entrance of the high school building.


FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
If your child carries an inhaler or epi-pen, a parent must complete a permission form and have it on file in the clinic. Forms are available for printing from the Forms page of the FCS website. This form gives permission for your child, as well as makes your child responsible, to take the inhaler/epi-pen on field trips and to sports events.

AUTOMATED PROGRESS REPORT
Parents, we apologize for sending grade book notifications to everyone this week. It is now configured so notifications will go out to the preferences you select. If you have not already done so, please follow/click these steps in RenWeb to receive a report:
  • Web Forms
  • Family Demographic Form
  • Select which Custodial Parent is to receive the report
  • Under Preferences (at bottom) select "Auto Email Gradebook Progress Report" to be delivered: never, daily, weekly
  • Click Save
  • Allow a few days for activation




HIGH SCHOOL ROBOTICS CLUB
Tuesday, September 3, Informational Meeting, 6:30 pm, Room 108, students interested in joining the HS Robotics Club and their parents are invited. Students who previously participated in robotics and their parents are also invited. Come hear what's new for the season, what changes are planned for our high school students, welcome our HS mentors, and meet our new faculty sponsor. TREAD SKI TRIP, WINTER BREAK 2014
Tuesday, September 3, Informational Meeting, 3:30 pm, Room 205. Packets will be handed out and questions answered. Where are we going? Breckenridge, Colorado. When: February 13-17, during FCS's winter break. The trip is open to all MS and HS students; cost is $1500 per student. This covers round trip airfare on AirTran, ground transportation, lodging, ski rentals (snowboarders will have an extra upgrade cost of $25), lift tickets, and all breakfasts and lunches. Space is limited to the first 25 to turn in the $300 deposit. Deposits will not be accepted until the conclusion of the informational meeting on September 3. A waiting list will be formed after the 25 spots are filled, and spots may be opened depending on age and gender (for rooming assignments). Adults may join the trip as chaperones or as parallel guests (outside our 25). Our agent in Breckenridge is working up individual rates. There will be more information regarding adult guests at the information meeting. Chaperone spots are dependent on the gender needs, and will be announced after the sign ups are complete. Questions? AP FEES
Fees due by Friday, September 13 for students taking AP classes, including AP Art. The fee is $75 per class. This is not to be confused with the $81 test fee that will be collected in the spring for the AP exam.

SAT/ACT PREP COURSE
Saturdays, September 14, 21, and 28. The information flyer can be found on the Forms page of the FCS website. Students must have completed one year of Geometry prior to registering for the course. Instruction time will include extensive concept reviews with specific tips, proven test-taking strategies, and practice! Read more...

DROPBOX
For your convenience, a dropbox is located in the office lobby, just inside the front entrance of the middle/high school building. Feel fee to briefly pull up to the curb to drop off any items in this box.

ATTENDANCE
During the beginning weeks of school, a portion of our HS attendance policy from the FCS Policy Guide will be highlighted. This week's information is on College Visits.
Juniors and seniors are allowed three school days each year for college visits. Parents must submit a note or email to the office five days in advance stating which college will be visited and the date requested (attendance@fcspaladins.org). College visits will not be counted as absences if the visit was approved and, upon their arrival back to school, the student turns in a College Visit Form (found on the school website) signed by the college admissions office and stamped with the official college seal. Any form turned in later than 48 hours after the visit will not be accepted and will be counted as an absence.  
Reminder - Parents should always email attendance@fcspaladins.org before 9:00 am if their child will be absent from school (including late arrivals and early dismissals).
